01 / The story
How do you hold a life in one moment?
Instances begins with a simple observation: the moments that shape us are rarely as instant as the word suggests. They linger, change meaning and become part of how we understand ourselves.
The project listens to people from Redfern, Waterloo and Green Square. Their experiences of music, survival, family, culture, work and everyday movement become a portrait of place through individual lives.

02 / The approach
One community. Many forms.
Rather than forcing every story into the same format, Jamie Gray moves between film portraits, Polaroids, video and text. The form follows the person.
The result is an evolving local archive where each voice keeps its own rhythm while contributing to a wider picture of community.
03 / The outcome
Four voices, one growing portrait
The current series introduces Mary, Laura, Griffin and Sophie. Their films move through music, survival, culture, family, identity, work and belonging without reducing any participant to one theme.
Instances was created independently by Jamie Gray. It is featured here to show the sensitivity, access and portrait storytelling he brings to the Blue Dot collective.
